Obituary of Cornelia H Gates

Gates, Cornelia (Connie) Hall.  Connie Gates, age 91, passed away on March 2, 2025 at home after a long life and a brief illness. Born in Cambridge, MA on July 13, 1933, Connie grew up in Cambridge and attended Buckingham, Browne and Nichols school before attending college and eventually earning her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Columbia University.

A longtime member of the Brookside Community Church, Connie served the church for many years in different capacities. She was on the Altar Committee and the Church Council, and was the Director of Christian Education for several years. She also enjoyed being a part of the Mendham Garden Club and the Mendham Historical Preservation Society. Connie was surprisingly industrious, installing the kitchen floor tile in the family home by herself!

Connie is predeceased by her parents Charles Edwards Hall and Alice Bradford Hall, and her husband of 56 years Robert Gates.

She is survived by her daughter, Jenn Earle (Chuck), her son Chris Gates (Lauren), and grandsons Ben Earle, Mason Earle, Ronan Gates, and Christian Gates. Her gentle spirit and sharp wit will be greatly missed. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. If inclined, a memorial gift may be made to the Mendham Township First Aid Squad.
