Obituary of Edith Casey

Edith (Deedie) Blair Casey
Edith, known to family and friends as Deedie, died peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025 following a long illness.

Growing up with her sister, brother, and Villa cousins and a group of close schoolmates in Peapack, NJ Deedie learned to love the outdoors and nature. She was a graduate of Far Hills Country Day School and subsequently attended Foxcroft School, Sarah Lawrence College and Fordham Law School in New York City where she thereafter practiced law at Carter Ledyard & Milburn.

Deedie lived her adult life in New York and Rhode Island where she had many friends with whom she enjoyed golf and fishing. An inveterate traveler, she embarked on trips to the American West, South America and Mongolia where she fished on the Onon River. Her particular fondness for animals drew her to East Africa on safari where, much to her delight, she camped in the bush where the lions roared at night.

Deedie leaves a sister, Anne van den Bergh, a niece, Julia van den Bergh, and nephews Alex van den Bergh and Jared, Colin and Julian Casey.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 182 Main Street, Gladstone on April 12th at 11 o’clock.  A Celebration of Her Life will be held on August 2nd at the Spouting Rock Beach Club in Newport, Rhode Island.
