Obituary of Mary Louise Francis
Mary Louise Francis, 86, of Pottersville, died on January 28, 2025.
Mary Louise was born in Orange on August 7, 1938, to Edmund L. and Mary C. Carey. She grew up in Rumson, where she was a champion junior swimmer and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School.
Following her graduation from Marymount College (Tarrytown, NY), Mary Louise worked in Manhattan before marrying John J. Francis, Jr., in 1965.
Mary Louise raised her family in South Orange and Bedminster, and after her divorce moved to Pottersville. She loved living in what she referred to tongue-in-cheek as the “heart of the hunt country” and participated in community life through her many volunteer activities, some of which included volunteering for the VNA of Somerset Hills, the Clarence Dillon Library in Bedminster, and the Second Chance Thrift Shop (benefitting Matheny) in Gladstone.
She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, playing tennis, and learning about and collecting Americana. Above all else, Mary Louise was a devoted mother, and when asked what her proudest accomplishment was, she would answer with the names of her three children, Carey, John, and Sean.
Mary Louise was predeceased by her brother, Edmund L. Carey, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Brian Carey, her loving children, Carey, John, and Sean Francis, and her nephews.
Services were privately held.
