Sister Mariette (Eleanor) Janson, Sister of Christian Charity, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Motherhouse in Mendham, New Jersey. Mariette died at the age of 103, the oldest member of the community. Born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on June 20, 1915, Sister Mariette was the daughter of Robert and Genevieve Janson.
Sister entered the community of the Sisters of Christian Charity on August 15, 1930. She made her first vows on June 30, 1931, and her Final Profession of Vows on August 20, 1938.
Over the years, Sister labored in the field of Catholic school education both as an elementary and secondary school teacher in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In her later years she serves as a homemaker in various convents and was a volunteer school librarian. Upon retirement from her apostolic duties, she resided at Holy Family Convent, Danville until she moved to the new Motherhouse in Mendham in May 2018.
Sister Mariette is survived by her sister, Anne McQuillen of Williamsport, and nieces Deborah and Patricia, and a nephew, Joseph, all of Williamsport.
Viewing at the Motherhouse will be on Thursday, October 25, 2-4 PM with Evening Prayer at 7 PM.
Liturgy of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 26, at 11 AM in the chapel of Mary Immaculate in the Motherhouse in Mendham. Interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds will follow the Liturgy.
