Born in Newark, NJ on December 3, 1933, Mitzie grew up in Maplewood where she excelled, both academically and athletically, and graduated from Columbia High School and Newark State Teachers College. Mitzie had a long and successful career as an educator in the Livingston school system, primarily as a second grade teacher. She had a special ability to make learning fun, and to ensure that each of her students maximized their potential. Her classrooms were filled with bright, colorful and informative bulletin boards, her message was always positive and cheerful, and she had an innate ability to make her students feel good about themselves, and strive for higher achievement. While teaching, Mitzie raised a family in Livingston, NJ with her devoted husband of 53 years, Peter. A loving mother to her two sons, Greg and Jeff, Mitzie was a sports enthusiast who provided tremendous support to her sons, their teammates and their friends, all of whom were part of her extended family. A gifted athlete, Mitzie excelled in all sports, particularly track and field, softball, bowling, tennis and paddle tennis. She played both tennis and paddle tennis at Maplewood Country Club and Essex County Country Club, where she was a multi-time club champion. Mitzie had a green thumb and a heart of gold. Her home was always open to all. After hosting scores of young athletes at her home, she always made sure that they had an excellent meal and a place to stay. Her kindness, goodness and generosity knew no bounds. Mitzie was predeceased by her parents, George and Bertha Schneider, and her loving husband, Peter. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Burke, and her brother, George Schneider, two sons, Greg (Pam) and Jeff (Betsy) Campisi, as well as three cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher and Jamie Campisi. In her latter years, Mitzie received wonderful care from her many friends at Memory Care Living in Chester, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mitzie are requested by the family to the Alzheimer’s Association.
