Obituary of A. Ronald Sorvino, MD

A. Ronald Sorvino, MD died peacefully on Sept. 14, 2015 at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was 82. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Ford Sorvino and Marietta Renzi, he lived in Short Hills and Mendham before moving to Naples FL. He was a graduate of St. John’s University and received his MD from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Dr. Sorvino served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander from 1962-1964 where he was the Chief of Psychiatry for the Newport Naval Hospital. He was the Chief of Psychiatry at Overlook Hospital in Summit for many years and operated a private practice at Overlook Hospital for over 30 years. Dr. Sorvino was loved by his patients. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and was an avid dancer and tennis player. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Samantha Anne Sorvino McGowan. He is survived by his wife Barbara A. Sonowski, MD of Naples, FL, two sons; Ronald Sorvino of Bedminster NJ, and Damian Sorvino, MD of Jersey City NJ, four daughters; Noel Sorvino, MD of Bedminster, Heidi Sorvino, Esq. of Summit, Kerry Sorvino, Esq. of Chicago and Krista Sorvino, Esq. of River Forest, IL and two brothers Paul and William Sorvino. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Mass Saturday 12 noon at St. Joseph Church Mendham.
