Obituary of William C. Rodda

William (Bill) Clark Rodda, 69, of Denville, NJ, passed away on September 1st after battle with cancer. Bill was born on May 18, 1946 in Jersey City and attended public schools in Chatham. In high school, he played the French horn and varsity basketball, and was elected co-captain of the team his senior year. Upon graduation, in 1964 he enrolled at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, where he first encountered the discipline of psychology. The experience was profound and guided his vocational choices for life: he received his PhD in psychology from the University of Maine in 1974, and later served as a faculty member in psychology departments at several colleges, including St. Peter's, William Paterson, and Jersey City State. He established the psychology department at St. Elizabeth's College, which graduated its first major in 1980. For the past 30 years, he worked as a therapist in private practice in Denville.In 1974 Bill moved from Maine to the Clark family farm in Denville, NJ, and lived with his Uncle Fredrick E. Clark. For the past 20 years his wife Patricia McKay assistance in expanding the egg business and provided the local community with cage free eggs that were always in high demand. He thoroughly enjoyed the hard work of tending to the property and animals, driving his old John Deere tractor and the farm life. He was an avid equestrian. He will be remembered by those who loved him for his gentle spirit and by his clients as an enabler to overcome their emotional trials. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ann Clark Rodda and William F.B. Rodda. He is survived by his wife Pat McKay; his sister, Mary Rodda, of Denville, NJ. The family will receive visitors from 3-6 pm on Friday, September 4th at Bailey Funeral Home, Mendham. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 11 at 10 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home followed by interment at Hilltop Cemetery.
