Obituary of Mary Jane Putman

Putman, Mary Jane "Sis" died peacefully at home with her family present on Thanksgiving Day after a two year brave fight to survive pancreatic cancer. Sis was born and lived in Stockton, California before graduating from Northwestern University in 1956 where she met her husband of some 49 years, Fenn Putman. They moved to New Jersey in 1963 and have lived in Mendham Township since 1966. Sis was very active in the local community. She was a school teacher and then a substitute in the Mendham Township's schools for over 40 years. An avid sports person, she coached boy's hockey and littleleague baseball teams. Active in golf, as a player and the Caddy Master at the 1990 Curtis Cup matches at Somerset Hills CC, where she was a member. A 20 year plus worker for the Metropolitan Golf Association doing score boards for hundreds of tournaments. She and the Putman family were awarded the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association's Golf Family of the year in 2009 at their annual dinner of some 800 people in Greenwich, Connecticut. One of her real loves was working each bi annual rummage sale of the Somerset Hills VNA in Far Hills. Sis was also a very competent musician as a cellist and was in the first chair in the San Jose Philharmonic. She is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Mary Ritchie. She is survived by her sister Georgia McManigal of Claremont, California, her husband, Fenn Putman as well as her three children, James his wife Susan and their two daughters Grace and Claire of Bernardsville, New Jersey, Jennifer Putman and her two children Caroline and Andrew of Pelham, New York and Jeff Putman and his wife Jennifer and their three children Audrey, Emily and Harrison of Westport, Connecticut. Sis was very involved with many animal support groups. A memorial service will be held at St. John on the Mountain, 379 Mt. Harmony Road, Bernardsville on December 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM.
