Obituary of Anthony R. Scillia, M.D.

Anthony R. Scillia, MD Devoted physician, husband and father passed away on September 26, 2017.  He was 67 years old. He was raised by his parents, Rose and Anthony in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Tony attended Bergan Catholic High School and went on to receive his BS in biology from Fordham University, where he graduated 12 in his class, Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1975, and later served as an Associate Professor there for many years. Tony was the Medical Director at St. Claire’s in Denville for 27 years, before serving at the same position at Morristown Medical Center for over 10 years. He had a private practice in Psychiatry for 40 years in Denville.

Through practicing medicine, teaching, and lecturing, he touched the lives of many.  The professional recognition and awards Tony received during the course of his career were numerous, and was honored as a NJ Top Doctor for many years.

Tony lived in Mendham, NJ and later moved to Bernardsville, NJ where he resided for over 31 years.  He was a member of the Essex Hunt Club, and the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club. He was also a longtime member of St. John on The Mountain Episcopal Church in Bernardsville.

Tony is survived by his devoted wife of forty-one years, Barbara, his son Anthony J. Scillia, MD and daughter-in-law Kimberly of Hoboken, his daughters Nicole M. Scillia, Esq. of Bernardsville and Kristin E. Scillia of Brooklyn, and his sister Patricia Scillia of Elmwood Park. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd. Mendham. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10 am at St. John on the Mountain, 379 Mt. Harmony RD., Bernardsville. Burial immediately following in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
