Obituary of Major Lewis Lee Roles

 

Major Lewis Lee Roles, of Westfield, passed away on June 13, 2017 surrounded by his family at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in Rahway.  He was 77.

Born in Sayre, OK he lived in Los Angeles, Arizona, Turkey and Germany before moving to Bayonne, NJ in 1977 and then Westfield, NJ in 1981.

He was a Major in the U.S. Army having served 21 years before retiring. 

He served two tours in Vietnam, one tour in Turkey and two tours in Germany.   

His family will remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather who believed in hard work and doing things right.  He adored his grandchildren and his family was the center of his life.

He was an avid bowler, fisherman and golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gudrun “Goodie” Roles, daughter Angela Diann & her husband Mike Szuch of Fanwood and daughter Claudia Lee Healy and her husband Chance of Long Valley.  Known by most as Pop Pop, he is also survived by his 5 grandchildren who were the pride of his life; Grady Szuch and Declan, Aidan, Reagan and Caelan Leigh Healy.

The family will receive friends on Saturday June 17, at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham from 2 - 4 PM followed by a memorial service held immediately following at the funeral home.  

The Major will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced.  For those desiring, donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, in his memory, would be appreciated.
