Mendham Twp – Edward Daniel McKirdy, J.D., died on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 81.
Born in Newark, NJ to the late Edward A. and Marion (D’Addario) McKirdy, he was a resident of Morristown before moving to Mendham 45 years ago.
Mr. McKirdy, a graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School, was a founding partner of the law firm of McKirdy, Riskin, Olson & DellaPelle in Morristown, retiring in January of 2017. He was a member of American Legal Institute-American Bar Association, the Owners Council of America, and the Morris County Bar Association. He served on the Morris County Judicial Selection Committee and the State Bar Association County Judicial and Prosecutor Appointments Committee. He was a national and local leader in his field of eminent domain, and won many professional commendations, including being named one of the Top 100 Super Lawyers in the state for many years and the Professional Lawyer of the Year for the Morris County Bar Association in 2004. He co-authored The NJ Condemnation Practice manual published by NJICLE. Early in his career, he was a Deputy State Attorney General for the state of New Jersey and later served as a municipal court judge in Denville Township. Mr. McKirdy served in the United States Army from 1958-1959.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Laura (nee Spielvogel) McKirdy, his son Edward Michael McKirdy and his wife Akane, his daughter Melissa McKirdy Hazen, MD and her husband Eric, and two grandsons James Edward Hazen and Henry Phillips Hazen.
Memorial Visitation will be at the Mendham funeral home Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 2-3 PM with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 3 PM at the funeral home.
